Liberty Relay For Life

May 1, 2014

The Liberty Relay For Life will soon be here and many people are working hard to make it a success and to raise as much funds as possible. Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 will approach fast and they have much to do. This year it will return to the Liberty school grounds for logistic reasons. This is a fantastic event for our community and I think most people recognize this. I wonder if anyone has ever thought what a unique event this is.
Most events we go to we have one or sometimes, very rarely, two goals in mind. We attend the funeral home to pay respects and honor friends, go to a movie or show to escape or be entertained, to a doctor to feel better, to school to learn, go to party to have fun or a restaurant to eat, support a charity to help people, to a fair to be with friends and community.. The list is endless. BUT Relay for life does all of this and more. We remember friends and loved ones. We honor those lost. We enjoy a great community event and see so many neighbors and friends. We challenge each other. We laugh, we cry and we raise a lot of money to erase a killer from our lives. WE DO IT ALL WHEN WE PARTICIPATE AND SUPPORT RELAY. EVER THINK OF IT LIKE THAT?
Above see some of our 24 hour walkers and the team from Liberty Schools marching.
Plan to be there. Be a part of LIBERTY RELAY FOR LIFE
THIS YEAR AND EVERY YEAR.

From Liz Hill FYI per request

The Citizens for Good roads, Liberty Township held the first organizational meeting on 3/26/2014 with 25 participants. The group listened as Township Trustees Stan Nudell and Jody Stoyak explained how state and federal budget cuts have decimated funding for road repairs. While Township Administrator Pat Ungaro has been successful in grant writing for road repairs, these grants require matching monies and there are no local funds right now to make the match.

The Township has created a list of roads that need re-surfacing in the next several years. There are 60 miles of roads in the township and some of the most critical include, Tibbetts Wick, (cost $152,273), Keefer ($177,355), Naylor-Lloyd ($136,670) along with many more roads. In addition to re-surfacing, the township must still budget for salt, hot patch and cold patch.

Currently 16 township residents have signed up to work to get the information to residents about the need for this levy. The levy will be on the May ballot and will cost a homeowner with a $100,000 home about 12 cents a day.

The committee is actively seeking additional residents to help with this project. It was clear the only way the roads in Liberty can get re-surfaced is by additional levy funding. Help is needed to make phone calls, distribute flyers and place signage. Those interested in helping should contact the township at 330-759-1315. Information will be out soon on the next meeting date.
